My first attempt to teach a class of 5 year old kids! I’ve been worried for few days that can I handle them well? Will it be a headache to teach such a young age? What can I teach them? Will it be boring and no one likes it?? (Normally I teach 1 to 1 where they come to my little shop). Siew Hui, Mia & Latysha, all 5 year old girls have made this a success with me eventhough it’s just 3 of them!

Choosing beads for their project
When they saw the beads in the containers and lined up neatly on the table, you can see their eyes sparkles and the smiles on their face just calms my nerve down - Children loves bead! All my worried was gone.
“Teacher, can I take the beads?” , “Teacher, do you know what is my favorite color?”, “Teacher, what is your favorite color?” Haha! out of sudden, I felt myself “flying” as I keep on hearing them calling me “teacher” with their sweet voices which melt my heart!
I passed them the palette and have not tell them to get the beads they want, “vroom!!” they ALREADY picking their favorite color and filling up the palette!

First try for stringing a simple bracelet
Love to see them concentrating in their work. Mia & Siew Hui are quite a quick learner while Latysha is learning how to hold the beads correctly so can string fast.
Tips: For kid, hold the beads with your first two fingers and make sure you can see through to the other side from the hole, beads’ position is important for steady stringing.

Stringing Necklace
The second art work is to string a necklace with 3 different types of beads and incorporating the stringing with math. They need to string a necklace in this order:
–> 4 bicone beads, 2 wood beads - repeat 4 times, followed by
–> insert 1 big colorful wood beads (selection of fish, heart, ladybug, flower, butterfly & cookies), 2 bicone beads, 2 wood beads, 2 bicone beads - repeat 3 times, then back to
–> 4 bicone beads, 2 wood beads - repeat 4 times, tide 2 knots and done!
All of them are really great in math and no one missed it!!

They are counting!

This first session of the class ended with their favorite piece!
I’m so proud of them! Tomorrow, they gonna learn how to make a “Dragonfly”!
